Thanks, Lost Property and Future Events

Thank you all for coming and supporting our event. It was a beautiful day and I hope everyone had a great experience on the Port Hills. We enjoy being able to show people what a treasure that Christchurch has on its doorstep. We would like to acknowledge with much gratitude all of the landowners: The Mount Vernon Farm Trust, Summit Road Society, Christchurch City Council, the Wooff family and Ian Burford and Sharon McGarry. We hope you will use the map again for walks or runs on the hills but please do note that although most of the land is public access the area around checkpoints 73 and 94 and around checkpoint 83 is private property so please keep to the tracks in these areas.

Hopefully you have all seen that the results are up on our webpage (and have been since the evening of the rogaine)

We had a couple of items of lost property handed in:
  •  a key on a lanyard and
  •  baseplate compass.
If these are yours please get in touch. We also had reports of missing items:
  • black thermatech long sleeve top with Coast to Coast logo on it
  • compass to go on your finger
  • child's brown fleece top with love hearts
If you happened to find any of these please let us know so we can help reunite them with their owners.

And last but certainly not least, more navigation events coming up:
The next 3 Wednesday Evenings “Bivouac Night Navigation Series” is happening in 3 different forests/reserves around Christchurch. On Wednesday it is at Spencer Park in the Northern end of Bottle Lake Forest Park - the format is 1 hour rogaines - registration from 6 pm and mass start at 7 pm.
See all the details on: http://www.nightnav.org/

In October the Wicked Rogaine series takes off with a 3 evenings series traditionally organised somewhere along the Port Hills. See all those details as they become available on:

On the New Zealand Rogaine Associations website http://www.rogaine.org.nz/ there is a whole heap of information available about rogaining including a New Zealand wide events calendar.

If you feel like testing yourself on set courses where you have to navigate through a number of control points in order from start to finish. Then visit the Peninsula and Plains Orienteers website http://papo.org.nz/
to find one of the regular events happening sometimes close to Christchurch and sometimes further afar in the Canterbury Region. These are open to all and suitable for all ages including children - great to get kids started early at understanding maps and navigation!
The next orienteering event is in the intricate sand dunes around the event centre at Woodend Beach Domain on Sunday the 18th of September.

Thanks once again, your support is helping us to get school kids to orienteering events around NZ and further afield

6 and 3 hour Rogaine Entries has reached our limit - Entry for those options is closed

We have already reached the limit for how many entrants we can cater for on the 3 and 6 hour options and the entry has been closed. There is NO entry on the day for the 3 or 6 hour options.

But the entry form for the 1 hour option is still available (use this to ensure a map is available for you - this entry form will be closed Friday Night) and we will take on the day entries for the 1 hour option to the extend that we have enough maps.

Online Entry may close Early

We've had a fantastic entry response this year and already have over 200 entrants.

As we want to ensure that we offer a great experience to everybody taking part we are going to limit the numbers to approximately 300 entrants. This means that the online entry may close prior to the advertised closing date of 24th August.

Classes

There has been a bit of confusion as to how the rules are for being a Veteran Team or a Junior Team.

To be in the Veteran Team class ALL members of the team must be 50 years or more.

To be in the Junior Team class ALL members of the team must be 20 years or less.

All other teams are Senior (Open) Class. We'll look through the entry data and add teams to the correct classes when the online entry closes.

2 weeks to the entry closing date

The day of the event is getting closer (and so is the entry closing date).

We have been out checking control sites on the beautiful (but slightly cold) Port Hills and are excited about the planning of the event.

It has also been decided to offer a 1 hour event with more controls within the Victoria Park area to cater for families or anyone keen to do a shorter option. The plan is to use google forms for pre entry to the 1 hour event and have some entry on day as this is going to be a no food included event. More details regarding this will appear soon on this website.
