Spring Hills Spring Rogaine 2017 - Wrap Up

Thank you all for coming along and supporting the 2017 Spring Rogaine and I hope you all enjoyed exploring some new areas on the Port Hills. The weather could have been a bit kinder, but it could have been a lot crueler as well! We would like to acknowledge with much gratitude all of the landowners:  Christchurch City Council, Department of Conservation and the Taylors Mistake Residents' association. We hope you will use the map again for walks or runs on the hills, but please do note, that although most of the land is public access, the valley above Taylor's Mistake is not usually open to the public.

Hopefully you have all seen that the results are up on our webpage (and have been since the evening of the rogaine)

Lost property: We had a walking stick handed in so if you lost one let us know.

And last but certainly not least, more navigation events coming up:
The last of the Wednesday Evenings “Bivouac Night Navigation Series” is happening in Bottle Lake forest from the visitor's centre car park this Wednesday (20th September). The format is a 1 hour rogaines - registration from 6 pm and mass start at 7 pm.
See all the details on: http://www.nightnav.org/

In October the Wicked Rogaine series takes off with a 3 evenings series traditionally organised somewhere along the Port Hills. For more details see:

On the New Zealand Rogaine Associations website http://www.rogaine.org.nz/ there is a whole heap of information available about rogaining including a New Zealand wide events calendar.

If you feel like testing yourself on set courses where you have to navigate through a number of control points in order from start to finish. Then visit the Peninsula and Plains Orienteers website http://papo.org.nz/
to find one of the regular events happening sometimes close to Christchurch and sometimes further afar in the Canterbury Region. These are open to all, and suitable for all ages including children - great to get kids started early at understanding maps and navigation!

Thanks once again, your support is helping us to get Beckenham school kids to orienteering events around NZ and further afield.
Port Hills Spring Rogaine Team

PS Sorry this is a bit delayed coming out - we came straight out of the rogaine onto organising school orienteering trainings culminating in the school festival event this weekend.

Event Centre Confirmed at Taylor's Mistake

We're excited to offer a new location this year, with the event centre at Taylor's Mistake offering a chance for participants to explore some new, beautiful locations on the Port Hills! There will still be a range of checkpoint locations to cater for beginners to experts. And we'll once again have our delicious soup and muffins for you when you finish. We're looking forward to offering another fun event!

2017 event - 4 weeks to go

Planning for the 2017 event is well underway. We are hoping for a new start location on the Port Hills and are just waiting for the OK from the Rangers before we can confirm it. But we can confirm that we will be offering a great rogaine on the Port Hills on Sunday 3rd September with 3 and 6 hour options giving you the chance to get out and explore some places you've never been before on the hills.
